"Begin your study time in prayer."

What a significant encouragement! I have been reminded lately of how spiritual things must be spiritually understood. We need the Spirit of God as we approach the Word of God.

True spiritual growth through a biblical study is not a matter of how intellectually savvy we are. God has made it abundantly clear that we are not able to understand Him.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)

O, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and untraceable His ways! (Romans 11:33)

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. (Psalm 139:6)


As we read and study we need the Spirit to "enlighten the eyes of our hearts" (Ephesians 1:18). This is a glorious possibility! The Lord desires to speak to us, to help us get to know Him, to draw us into deeper fellowship with Him. Invite Him help you to gain insight into His higher, deep, unsearchable, wonderful ways.

Guide me in Your truth and teach me ... (Psalm 25:5 AMP)

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. (John 14:26)

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)
